#285: Ellen Degeneres
As a kid I was a fan of the “Ellen” sitcom, and was
heartbroken when it was cancelled. I’ve read the books she’s authored, spent
hours cracking up with my college friends watching her standup, believed she
was the true star of Finding Nemo,
and celebrated when she became the host of her own talk show 10 years ago.
There is so much to love about Ellen Degeneres—she’s hilarious, giving, kind,
energetic and most importantly a true positive force in our society.
I’ve been watching this current season more regularly than I
have in the past, and have been truly heart warmed by Ellen’s focus on
acknowledging regular citizens for their heroic acts or deservedness. She opens
her stage to celebrities, of course, but also to hikers who worked to save a
dog they found stranded, a couple living happily and optimistically despite
their need to rent an unfurnished apartment after a home foreclosure, the
former Boy Scout advocating for equality within the scouting organization. She
throws her support and friendship behind all of these people, making her show
not just one of entertainment but as a venue to spread kindness, tolerance and
encouragement. I’ve thought a lot this week after watching her show that the
world is truly a better place because Ellen Degeneres is in it, and I am so
thankful she is.

#272: Jeff Lewis
Flipping Out is one of the few reality tv shows that I watch, and I admittedly watch it mainly because of the show's lead, Jeff Lewis. Jeff is an interior designer and house "flipper", but he's I watch the show because he is ridiculously funny. He's crass, sarcastic, quick witted and mischievous...unbelievably entertaining. Jeff is the kind of 'celebrity' I like to think that, if I knew him personally, would be a good friend of mine. Since he's not and never will be, I'm glad I at least get to be entertained by him weekly on Flipping Out.

#237: Ninja Kitty
As a cat owner I am drawn to funny cat videos, but even if you dislike them, I can't imagine anyone watching this video and not laughing:

#210: Raymond on "Wheel of Fortune"
I was reminded of this video last night. It is long, but a well spent eight minutes of your life.

#202: The Muppets
I've been waiting for a long time to see the new Muppets movie. Netflix finally released it, and I finally received it in the mail. We watched it and LOVED it. I am aging myself with this next comment, but it was such good, clean, fun humor. It reminded me a lot of the Muppet movies I loved as a kid, and I am so happy there is a new film for a new generation.

#166: Willie Geist
I woke up earlier than usual this morning, so I aptly watched "Way Too Early", hosted by Willie Geist before I was motivated to actually get out of bed. Willie Geist is simultaneously so intelligent and so entertaining, and I really enjoy regularly catching the end of "Way Too Early" and then the first hour of "Morning Joe" because of him . I'm not proud to say that I have a tendency to be irritable in the early morning hours, and there are definitely a number of personalities that I "can't take" until I am fully awake (now, at 8:30 p.m. being fully awake, that feels like an awful thing to say. But in 10 hours I will stand behind that statement with full conviction). Much of the morning circuit television presence is made up of those personalities, but thankfully there's Willie Geist. He's sarcastic and observant, quick witted and ironic, and helps ease me out of my morning irritability into my rest-of-the-day pleasantness.

#159: Race Spectator Signs
My favorite spectator signs from today's half marathon, which I hope to internalize for future days running:
"Puke and Rally!"
"Your feet hurt because you're kicking serious ass."
"You've trained longer than Kim Kardashian was married."

An oldie, but a goodie. Dare I say my favorite viral video ever?

#148: 30 Rock
30 Rock just aired its live show. I think I'll be laughing about it for days. A 'Zou Bisou Bisou' allusion? Incredible.
With an inordinate amount of television stations now in existence, it seems like so much of what airs is insipid, especially in regards to what qualifies as comedy these days. And then there's 30 Rock.
Aside from the fact that Tina Fey might be my favorite celebrity (yes, even more than Tori Spelling), there is so much to appreciate about 30 Rock. Liz Lemon is the 21st century Everywoman. The writing is hysterically smart, clearly valued and held to a high standard, and caters to a smart audience. The actors, as they proved tonight, are incredibly talented. And the best aspect, it never fails to make me laugh, hard and loud.

#141: Sweet Brown Video
I wish I had seen this weeks ago when I, myself, had bronchitis. Regardless, this is damn funny.

#90: Modern Family
"Modern Family" is easily one of the funniest shows on tv right now, and arguably for me, personally, one of the funniest of all time. We just watched this week's episode tonight, and I truly appreciate everything about the show. I love both the characters and the actors who play them, the writing, and the fact that every episode finds away to be simultaneously hilarious and heartwarming. If you're not watching it, you should be.

#28: Laughing So Hard It Hurts
My sister-in-law recently found a website where you can submit information for a video from Santa for your children. She shared the videos made for my nieces and nephew. They were sweet, heartfelt and charming.
Naturally I had to make one for my father.
I cannot even begin to describe how funny it is (at least to us). Kegan and I have watched it multiple times, and we crack up every time. I love to laugh hysterically. In the "seriousness" of adulthood I enjoy it even more. Oddly enough, sometimes nothing feels as good as laughing so hard it hurts.
(Note: I'd love to share the video here, but the sharing of it with my immediate family is not going to take place until Christmas. Since I know they are reading the blog, it will just have to wait.)
